This newly established full-time research post at the Institute for Social Marketing & Health, University of Stirling offers a rare, exciting and high-profile opportunity for an outstanding researcher to join our world-leading Institute on an open-ended contract. ISMH leads and collaborates with other leading research teams on diverse alcohol research, including on population-wide policies such as marketing, labelling, availability and pricing, industry activity and the policy process. The post-holder will play a key role in preparing for ISMH to apply to establish a WHO Collaborating Centre for alcohol policy research & capacity building as well as taking forward a separate portfolio of alcohol research activities.

The successful candidate will be invited to shape and expand their portfolio of work in line with their interests and expertise, in collaboration with ISMH colleagues and external partner organisations including WHO. It is expected that their work will include research and capacity building in, but not limited to, low/middle income countries, and will inform a work plan for a new WHO Collaborating Centre. Development of new international studies in the global South, as well as Scottish/UK elements of international comparative studies would also be welcomed. It is expected that the successful candidate will support and lead the drafting of research proposals related to the post-holder’s interests and the needs of the post, in collaboration with ISMH colleagues

Turning Point & Eastern Health

Turning Point is a national treatment, research and education centre that provides leadership in the alcohol and drug, gambling and mental health sectors in Victoria and beyond. Combining innovative research in the clinical, population health and policy fields, with service innovation, surveillance, system enhancements, capacity building and specialist support, Turning Point assists services, communities and the Victorian government to respond to current and emerging alcohol and drug and gambling issues.

Turning Point is part of Eastern Health, the largest public health provider in the eastern suburbs, providing a comprehensive range of high quality acute, sub-acute, palliative care, mental health, drug and alcohol, residential care and community health services.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to join our Clinical and Social Research Team at Turning Point, Australia’s leading national addiction treatment, research and training centre based in Richmond, Melbourne. The successful candidate will work as part of this dynamic, collaborative team and, in particular, will contribute to the timely completion of two new projects:

i)     The Health4Her effectiveness-implementation trial (a collaboration between Turning Point, Monash University, BreastScreen Victoria, Lifepool, and Shades of Pink, to increase women’s awareness that alcohol causes breast cancer, and promote alcohol behaviour change); and

ii)   The evaluation of a new Driver Support Service for people in Victoria who have been detected drink or drug driving (a collaboration between Turning Point, the Department of Transport and Planning, and Victoria Police, to address substance use problems leading to drink/drug driving recidivism).

In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating quantitative (e.g. surveys) and qualitative (e.g. interviews, focus groups) data collection and management, and you will ensure participants are treated with the highest level of care during their research participation. To be successful in this role, you will need to have experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research, with knowledge of the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research, and the ability to manage research data with a high level of attention to detail. You will need to have strong organisational skills, and strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

The successful candidate will contribute to other research activities undertaken by the team (e.g. research into experiences of e-cigarette use and dependence), work directly with senior researchers/clinicians who will provide guidance and mentoring, and have opportunities to co-author peer-reviewed publications and present at national conferences. Ongoing training and professional development opportunities will be available. Flexible hybrid working arrangements and a staff wellbeing program are also available.

The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) changes lives by bringing people and knowledge together to reduce the harms of alcohol and other drugs on society. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and in collaboration with the Executive Assistant to the CEO and Corporate Secretary, the Strategic Assistant is responsible for providing support to the CEO through a combination of functions including project management, writing and editing, research and high-level administrative and relationship support. The Strategic Assistant also helps manage relationships with external partners, including representatives of provincial, local and federal government agencies and private-sector organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with the Executive Assistant to the CEO and Corporate Secretary to manage the CEO’s office
  • Prepares meeting materials and notes, and ensures follow-up for various meetings with staff, Board members and external collaborators 
  • Coordinates internal and external special projects with other divisions and organizations on behalf of the CEO
  • Coordinates activities with senior officials, parliamentarians and media
  • Assists in maintaining relationships with CCSA’s partners and collaborators and assists in strengthening those relationships

The Primary Therapist plans and coordinates medically approved treatment plans and therapeutic interventions for patients seeking in-patient substance use disorder treatment in an RCA facility. Treatment plans will address co-occurring disorders, leverage RCA programming, address family systems and other factors influencing patients' recovery. The Primary Therapist inspires and motivates RCA patients and helps them develop tools to work toward recovery using evidence-based and person-centered practices.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate clients' mental and physical health, addiction, or problem behavior and assess their readiness for treatment
  • Help clients develop treatment goals and plans, including support of education about medically assisted treatment options and referral to / collaboration with other resources on the medical and psychiatric teams
  • Review and recommend treatment options with clients and their families; partner with Case Management around after care plan
  • Help clients develop skills and behaviors necessary to recover from their addiction or modify their behavior
  • Work with clients to identify behaviors or situations that interfere with their recovery
  • Teach families about addiction or behavior disorders and help them develop strategies to cope with those problems
  • Refer clients to other resources and services, such as job placement services and support groups
  • Conduct outreach programs to help people identify the signs of addiction and other destructive behavior, as well as steps to take to avoid such behavior
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Experience Required

Must hold valid State of Maryland Licensure or Credential that allows for practice of Drug and Alcohol Counseling (ADT, CAC-AD, CSC-AD, LGADC, LCADC, LGPC, LCPC, LMSW, LCSW, LSCW-C). One to three years of experience in a behavioral healthcare or substance abuse settings serving culturally diverse populations. Knowledge of case management for dual diagnosis patient. Knowledge of medically assisted treatment options in the field of substance use disorder treatment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Position Summary Information

Campus Recreation & Wellness provides quality recreational and educational experiences designed to positively impact the development of Elon students and contribute to the wellness of the campus community. The Coordinator of Collegiate Recovery is an essential member of the Campus Recreation & Wellness professional team and will provide dedicated leadership in developing the Phoenix Free initiative as a model Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP). This position is responsible for the continued development, implementation, and coordination of a comprehensive collegiate recovery program that includes assessing needs and evaluating project outcomes. This position will work alongside professional staff to cultivate a recovery-ready campus, increase student access to substance use prevention and recovery support services, establish a visible network of recovery allies, and strengthen campus and community collaborations. This is a grant-funded position through June 2024 with a possible extension through 2026.
 

Education requirements

Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, health education, addiction studies, counselling, psychology, or related field required; master’s degree in public health, social work, health education, higher education, addiction studies, counselling, psychology, or related field preferred.

Experience required

  • Experience working with substance use in a university setting and demonstrated knowledge of how to incorporate prevention, harm reduction, and recovery in the context of higher education
  • Knowledge and understanding of student development theory and ability to design, implement, and evaluate effective programs, services, and interventions
  • Proficiency in conducting quantitative and qualitative research (e.g., research design, survey development, environmental assessment, focus group design and facilitation, data analysis, etc.) and interpreting findings to develop data-driven programs
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate individual-and-group discussions about sensitive topics, including BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) and other substance use-related interventions

Webinars:

  • Liaise with the ISSUP team to determine content and schedule for webinars.
  • Coordinate and schedule webinars and group meetings, including sending invitations and announcements to speakers and participants.

  • Facilitate the technical hosting of webinars, ensuring smooth operations during live sessions.

Responsibilities

Within limits of assigned authority, the Drug Control and Crime Prevention Officer (Drug Policy) will undertake activities in the context of supporting the Chief of the Branch in advising and leading on drug policy matters related to the work of UNODC. More specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

• Serve as principal coordinator, including advisory functions to the Chief of the Branch, on overall drug policy issues and related strategic decisions. Perform lead coordinating functions to ensure that the planning and programming of the Branch are undertaken in close collaboration with policies set by the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, the UNODC corporate strategy on addressing and countering the world drug problem, and in coherence with the UN (United Nations) Common Position on Drugs.
• Perform lead responsibility for the conceptualization, preparation and coordination of substantive and policy papers with respect to the different work areas of the Branch, as well as for the coordination of Branch-level and UNODC-level inputs for UN Secretariat- and UN system-wide and other relevant policy and strategy documents. Prepare and contribute to thematic substantive publications and other specialized products.
• Attend policy-making and expert group meetings to monitor, analyse and advise on events and discussions. Provide technical inputs to the preparation of position papers and reports for presentation to intergovernmental bodies, such as the Commission on Narcotic Drug, prepare analytical summaries of debates, and support negotiations and analyses/compilation of outcomes;
• Participate in and/or represent DLSSB in internal and external committees, inter-governmental, UN inter-agency task forces, and international technical meetings related to drug policy, as required.
• Serve as focal point for the task team on the UN common position on drugs, develop and deliver a work programme of activities of engagement and meetings, in close consultation with participating agencies, the UN development coordination office, country teams and UNODC field offices. Develop and disseminate information materials related to drug policy, including on the UN common position on drugs.
• Serve as gender, human rights, diversity and inclusion focal point for DLSSB.
• Prepare/draft a variety of written outputs, such as such as background papers, correspondence with governments, working papers, mission reports, analyses, briefings, presentations, policy proposals and documents, regular and ad hoc reports, studies, summary reports, manuals, guides, toolkits, model legislation, and responses to technical internal/external queries on drug policy. Draft parts of, or contribute to, the preparation of progress and assessment reports.
• Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
• Perform other work-related duties, as required

The Middle East and North Africa Harm Reduction Association is a regional network on harm reduction covering 20 countries in the MENA region. Summary of key tasks

MENAHRA is seeking a consultant to facilitate the Regional Consultation Meeting on TB happening in Lebanon on August 7, 8 and 9, 2023;

MENAHRA aims at organizing a three days regional consultation meeting (face-to-face) for TB program managers, key populations, and civil society organizations from 8 priority countries in the MENA region.

The meeting will focus on advocating for the inclusion of harm reduction and TB services for KPs in national response plans. The meeting will be attended by representatives from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Pakistan, Sudan, and Yemen, based on the priority countries highlighted in the MAP of the Stop TB Partnership website.

The consultation meeting will serve as a starting point for the upcoming activities and ensure that the Middle East and North Africa Harm Reduction Association (MENAHRA) reaches the objectives of the project.  The meeting will prepare countries' delegations for the UNHLM and ensure TB and harm reduction services for key populations are included in national TB plans. The meeting will be guided by the Zero draft on the UNHLM political declaration, the Deadly Divide report and the Key Asks and will provide a platform for stakeholders to share experiences and knowledge. The meeting will also guide the implementation of the seed fund indicated in the project, and deliver reports identifying key priorities and recommendations for the region.

Ending tuberculosis (TB) requires a people-centered, gender-transformative response that addresses the underlying determinants of health, fosters enabling legal and policy environments, prioritizes and empowers people affected by TB and key and vulnerable populations, and engages civil society and community-based organizations. National TB Programs, global decision-makers, and their partners must confront socioeconomic factors such as gender, occupation, nutrition, language, legal status, cultural norms, and access to information and education to strengthen community systems, reduce and eliminate TB stigma, protect and promote human rights, and foster a gender-transformative disease response. The TB Community, Rights and Gender Assessment (CRG Assessment) is designed to achieve these ends. TB-affected communities, CSOs, and their partners have taken bold steps to promote and operationalize a human rights-based TB response. The TB CRG Assessment is a multi-stakeholder, participatory process led by CSOs and CBOs, sanctioned by NTPs, and supported by STP, lawyers, and other technical experts.

Global plans and commitments to end TB recognize the critical role communities, human rights, and gender must play in the disease response. Countries work to operationalize these pledges in their national programs, NSPs, and other interventions. Supported by STP, WHO, and the Global Fund, the CRG Assessment is a powerful tool for CSOs, CBOs, lawyers, researchers, donors, and others to support countries in meeting these ambitious goals.

Strong analytical, technical, and data analysis skills are required, along with excellent organizational abilities and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Addiction is looking to add to its pool of Statistics & Methodology Editors (SMEs) in reviewing submitted research reports.

A background in addiction studies or familiarity with the particular features of addiction work would be a benefit, although may not be essential for a person with a strong empirical background in the medical or social sciences.  Preference is likely to be given to those with a formal qualification in statistics or epidemiology.

A good understanding of contemporary regression models for the analysis of epidemiological studies, randomized controlled trials, complex survey designs, and at least some appreciation of Bayesian approaches is important.  The SME would be required to support the Senior Editor by reviewing the statistical and methodological aspects of about 1-2 articles per month, possibly increasing to 3-4 per month during periods of high throughput.  The workload can be flexible, depending on the other commitments of the SME.  This will be a paid position in accordance with the journal's working arrangements for Senior Editors.

The Health Economics and Decision Science section in the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR) are seeking to appoint a Research Associate in Health Economic Modelling. You will work alongside colleagues in the Sheffield Alcohol Research Group (SARG) on applied and methodological research projects relating to alcohol, including the public health impact of no- and low-alcohol drinks.

The Substance Use Disorder Professional provides counseling services to youth experiencing the impact of mental health and substance use disorder.   • Conducts chemical dependency evaluations utilizing the DSM 5 and the ASAM-Patient Placement Criteria.
  • Provides individual, group, and family counseling.
  • Prepares and maintains complete, confidential, and timely client records, in accordance with state and county contractual requirements to ensure quality of care and confidentiality
  • Collaborates with Mental Health Professionals on assessments, evaluations, individual service plans, and transfers to ensure continuum of care and quality treatment.
  • Conducts and collects patient urinalysis test as required.
  • Completes discharge summaries and after care plans in a timely manner in accordance with state requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains ongoing relations with agencies, other professionals, government entities, schools and community partners to ensure appropriate referral resources are available to address the needs of clients.

The Addiction Medicine Care Navigator navigates patients and their families through the Hurtt Addiction Medicine and Chemical Dependency Program from initial contact through completion of their treatment. This position must understand that substance use disorders are chronic diseases that can affect patient’s mental and physical health, relationships, families, employment, and legal consequences. They will support and promote clinical quality of care programs and initiatives for substance use and addiction for HRSA and SAMHSA and act a liaison between the clinic and patients to ensure that treatment objectives are achieved. The Addiction Medicine Care Navigator provides education to patients and their families regarding substance use and addiction, develops and implements outreach to outside entities and health fairs, and works with clinical and operations staff to assist with communications and reporting for substance use disorder grants. In addition, this position includes significant administrative responsibilities, as indicated throughout the job duties.

Job Responsibilities & Duties

  • Establish collaborative and supportive relationships with Physicians, staff, patients and interdisciplinary teams acting as a patient advocate and liaison to support the patient’s efforts to reach their healthcare goals.
  • Collaborate with primary care clinicians, addiction medicine clinicians, therapists, psychiatrists medical assistants, front desk PSR staff and call center with helping patients establish care and maintain appointments and treatment goals.
  • Follows up with patients that miss their appointments or are regularly late to their appointments.
  • Coordinates care between all departments including but not limited to medical, addiction medicine, therapy, psychiatry, dental, chiropractic and nursing services.
  • Develop and implement care coordination processes utilizing the electronic health record’s care coordination module to support patients with substance use disorders to and any co-occurring psychiatric disorders to ensure patient treatment objectives are established and achieved.
  • Make entries into patient’s electronic health records to document outreach efforts and patient contact.
  • Develops whole-person care coordination processes that addresses barriers to care and social determinants of health (SDOH) including care coordination initial visits and follow up visits that identify needs and provide resources or assistance navigating services.
  • Provides basic education to patients and their families regarding substance use and addiction.
  • Develop and implement outreach to outside entities (e.g. juvenile hall, jail, treatment programs, hospitals, shelters, schools, coalitions, etc.) and health fair events.
  • Maintains and adds to the Hurtt patient resource directory with care coordination and addiction resources including but not limited to SDOH, housing, transportation, legal, disability, food insecurity, financial, immigration, mental health, domestic violence, health care, intensive outpatient program, residential program, detox program resources.
  • Develops community relationships for patient referrals and tracks/maintains all logs for patient referrals.
  • Attends and participates in MAT interdisciplinary clinic meetings, consultation groups, trainings and outside provider/collaboration meetings.
  • Serves as the Hurtt Clinic clinical lead for its participation in the MATCONNECT project for the Coalition of Orange County Community Clinics, participating in training and meetings as scheduled.
  • Make outbound calls and contact via mail to patients to encourage them to schedule appointments to receive healthcare services.
  • Act as lead for identified MAT Grant Programs that require Care Navigator services. Assist clinical and operation staff meeting grant requirements and communicating and preparing reports to Grant programs.
  • Obtain and enter into electronic health records for testing and consult notes for appointments completed with providers outside the clinic to document patient compliance.
  • Follow-up with patient on results as directed by the Provider, including generating and provided data and reports.
  • Link patients with other social services and community partners to support lifestyle changes.
  • Provide positive problem solving resolutions to patient’s needs/demands.
  • Schedules visits with patients on site and provides one-on-one education.
  • Participate in all Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement meetings and provide reporting, update and project outlines as required
