The position we are recruiting for is presently situated within the Policy, crime and markets (PCM) unit, and the selected candidate will report to the Head of sector Policy and society.
The selected candidate will develop, enhance and promote the scientific competencies of the EUDA, particularly in relation to the work of the Policy and society sector. The jobholder will coordinate the EUDA’s portfolio of resources and tools that support drug policy design and evaluation.
This objective is achieved by developing tools to assist policymakers in the design, implementation and monitoring of drug policies, creating protocols, standard operating procedures and guidance, as well as responding to requests from EUDA customers, including policymakers.

Main duties

The successful applicant will be expected to perform the following main tasks and responsibilities:

• Contribute to objectives and outputs in the area of drug policies in the framework of the EUDA single programming documents.
• In the area of policy design and evaluation:
  • to coordinate the EUDA portfolio of resources and tools to support drug policy design, monitoring and evaluation;
  • to develop tools to support decision-makers with the design and implementation of drug strategies and action plans;
  • to explore and integrate innovative approaches and technology solutions to support policy design, monitoring and evaluation;
  • to develop a protocol and standard operating procedures for handling requests from decision-makers;
  • to provide guidance and support to policymakers and implementers with drug policy design, monitoring and evaluation;
  • to contribute to the development of a policy design, monitoring and evaluation training programme;
  • to support the implementation of EUDA actions in the EU drug-related strategic documents, where appropriate;
  • to oversee contract management processes, including drafting specifications, negotiating and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
• In the area of drug policy analysis and emerging drug policy trends:
  • to coordinate and provide data analysis in the fields of drug policies to support reliable and timely drug policy analysis;
  • to identify innovative policy approaches and emerging drug policy trends;
  • to develop resources that clearly communicate complex policy issues to diverse audiences, including decision-makers and other EUDA stakeholders.

The internship is located in the Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS), Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. Applicants have the possibility of being engaged for a period of six months, subject to the needs of the office and the availability of the candidates. The Medical Research Council (MRC) has recently funded a Four-year, £1.5M cohort study, that is studying the impact of e-cigarettes on immune and epithelial cells within the lungs of smokers trying to quit using e-cigarettes. 

Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death worldwide, and a risk factor for many diseases. With an ageing population, the profound economic and health burden of smoking-related disease continues to increase. E-cigarettes are an effective, NICE recommended smoking cessation tool yet the long-term effects of vaping remain uncertain. Our short-term exposure studies have shown the deleterious effects of e-cigarette exposure on innate immune cell function (neutrophils, alveolar macrophages), suggesting potential harm from chronic exposure. 

This project aims to address this knowledge gap by recruiting a cohort of healthy smokers aiming to quit smoking using e-cigarettes, to provide critical data needed to determine safety and to inform personal choice, public debate, and policy. This longitudinal cohort study will evaluate accumulation of toxins in the airways, changes in epithelial and innate immune cell functions during smoking cessation, by combining a multi-omic approach with whole-cell effector functions and characterise changes in the respiratory microbiome. 

This post will require the Research Fellow to work closely with clinical scientists to deliver this cohort study within the laboratory of Dr Aaron Scott. The Research Fellow will contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within this research project.

Over the past decade, UNDP’s Hub on LGBTI+ and Key Populations has led implementation of several important multi-country and regional initiatives in Africa, involving a combination of key populations, LGBTI issues, human rights, law, and inclusive governance. The national Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Matters (CRISM) network is seeking a full-time, contract (1-year) dynamic and creative Implementation Specialist to support the development and dissemination of knowledge translation (KT) products for national projects. The network comprises five regional nodes across the country and a national Indigenous Engagement Platform. The objective of CRISM is to translate evidence-based interventions for illicit and prescription drug use into clinical practice, community-based prevention, and health system changes. The network conducts substance use intervention research, including community-based primary and secondary prevention, as well as randomized pharmacotherapy and psychosocial trials with collaborating treatment programs and is well positioned to do so as it is modeled after the US National Institute of Drug Abuse Clinical Trials Network. This specialist position is full-time and will work with CRISM’s National Coordinating Center, playing a key role in ensuring that CRISM’s research findings are accessible, engaging, and impactful across stakeholder audiences at a national scale. These stakeholders include clinicians, policymakers, researchers, and people with lived and living experience of substance use.

A consultant is needed to support country and regional efforts on alcohol control through technical assistance, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communications, aligned with regional priorities and WHO frameworks.

Alcohol use remains a leading preventable risk factor for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), injuries, and social harms across the Western Pacific Region. It contributes to over 200 disease and injury conditions, and every minute, one person dies from alcohol-related harm in the Region. The WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific, through the NCD Prevention and Health Promotion (PND) Unit under the Division of Healthy Environments and Populations (DHP), supports Member States in implementing evidence-based interventions to reduce alcohol use and its associated burden.

To accelerate progress, WHO is scaling up technical support to countries in conducting situation analyses, mapping stakeholders, and strengthening cross-sectoral collaboration. This includes facilitating technical briefings and workshops, developing policy briefs, and providing hands-on technical review of draft policy instruments such as legislation, fiscal measures, and monitoring frameworks.

At the regional level, WHO is also intensifying efforts to promote alcohol control through strategic engagement with Member States and technical teams. This includes preparing for the alcohol control agenda of the Regional Committee Meeting, aligning with regional strategies and acceleration initiatives, and developing tailored communications toolkits to engage the public and policymakers. The consultant will also support inter-country learning, documentation of success stories, and finalisation of regional publications and workshops.

This consultancy requires a technically skilled and strategically minded expert with demonstrated experience in alcohol control policy, stakeholder engagement, and public health communications. The Memory Epigenetics and Addiction Laboratory at Temple, directed by Dr. Mathieu Wimmer, is offering diverse opportunities to participate in cutting-edge biomedical neuroscience research, which are part of the NIDA-funded project, “Delineating epigenetic mechanisms underlying addiction vulnerability using multigenerational animal models.” This project will explore the specific mechanisms that confer addiction vulnerability (or resilience) using animal models of substance abuse and opioid dependence.

The part-time Research Assistant will manage multiple aspects of the research process. The Research Assistant will maintain records of data, collect and analyze data related to multiple projects, organize the data and generates graphical representation of collected data. The Research Assistant will also be responsible for performing surgical procedures and behavioral assays that are part of the research projects. The Research Assistant will help maintain and repair of lab equipment and will be responsible for ordering supplies for the lab. The Research Assistant will also fulfill administrative tasks including IACUC, IBC and EHRS protocol submission and revisions. The Research Assistant will also help organize lab meeting schedule and secure rooms for meetings. The successful candidate will perform other duties as assigned.

We have an opening for a postdoctoral fellow to join my lab at the National Institute of Mental Health at the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD. Research in the lab is focused on the computational neuroscience of reward prediction and learning. Broadly, we study how timing, inference processes and goal selection modulate learning in reward-guided tasks in animals and humans, and how these processes are instantiated in neural activity across the reward learning circuits of the brain. Our goal is to understand how reward learning is altered in compulsive behaviors, addiction, and motivational deficits in disorders of mental health. We are looking for a postdoc who is interested in developing approaches from reinforcement learning, dynamical systems theory, and Bayesian inference to understand the online regulation of reward prediction and learning in neural activity and behavior. We work with a broad network of collaborating labs that span rodent, NHP and human studies, and the ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a highly interdisciplinary environment to pursue novel and translational insights into the neural basis of reward learning. This opening is an excellent opportunity for a computational neuroscientist who wishes to apply theoretical ideas to understand empirical data, with the opportunity to collaborate on novel paradigms to test computational models of reward-guided behavior and reward learning in the brain.

The Department of Psychology and Human Services at Upper Iowa University invites applicants for a tenure track position starting January 2026 at the Fayette campus. We are seeking candidates able to teach a wide range of Psychology and Human Services courses including core courses for the Psychology major in addition to service, skilled, and applied courses such as Counseling Skills, Developmental Psychology, and Substance Abuse.

The standard teaching load is four courses per semester in a 2-2, eight-week session schedule. In the evolving field of addiction research, the Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow position sits at the forefront of an international program aimed at improving the understanding and treatment of alcohol use disorder. This position will leads functional neuroimaging research and plays a key part in developing and evaluating neuroimaging-guided brain stimulation techniques. Situated within the vibrant Addiction and Impulsivity Research Lab, the position contributes to a global initiative focused on advancing personalised and innovative approaches to addiction care.

This dynamic and collaborative position works closely with a multidisciplinary team of neuroimagers, computational modellers, neurostimulation experts and clinical scientists. It supports high-impact research through contributions to publications, conference presentations and the development of competitive funding proposals. The role also includes mentoring research staff and building productive partnerships across institutions to help drive progress in the field of addiction neuroscience.

We are seeking someone with a doctoral qualification in psychology, neuroscience or a related discipline along with a strong record of research achievement and external grant success. This position will suit someone seeking leadership experience and a passion for mentoring early-career researchers and working in a collegial team environment.
