The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time, temporary (6 months) Occupational Therapist to work in the General Forensic Unit B (LGUB 1-3). 

Using evidence based intervention, clients are provided with specialized psychiatric and discipline specific assessment along with intensive care using Cognitive Adaptation Training principles.

As an Occupational Therapist you will be working toward enabling patients, through assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to re-integrate in to the community.

This studentship, hosted by the Institute of Health & Society at Newcastle University, is open to social science candidates or those with relevant professional qualifications with interests in children and families. The specific research project will be determined by the interests of the successful candidate. In particular, applications will be welcomed that relate to:

• Parental substance misuse
• Substance misuse and the family
• Familial risk factors (including intimate partner abuse, mental health, offending behaviour) and childhood adversity
• Early help and preventative interventions
• Looked after children and care leavers
• Developing and evaluating behaviour change interventions in social care.

This PhD studentship will focus on scoping and developing a prototype intervention for use as a public mental health intervention in settings with children and young people, for example, families, schools or communities.

Have a solid understanding of the role of the Community Employment Supervisor as it pertains to project management and programme delivery to participants in rehabilitation and who present as long-term unemployed or vulnerable adults;

Display responsibility, commitment and motivation to implement the objectives of the Community Employment CE Drug Rehabilitation Programme;

Demonstrate knowledge of addiction and rehabilitation support services;

Demonstrate an understanding of the range of programmes and courses available to unemployed and vulnerable adults; Be familiar with the DSP Referral procedures for CE participants;

Have an overview of the National Drug Rehabilitation Framework and the role of CE in supporting recovering substance misusers. Previous supervisory and people management experience relevant to the post (3 years minimum);
