With approximately 65,000 admissions per year and 10,000 average daily population, the NYC jail system is among the largest in the nation. The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H) is responsible for the delivery of medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning in the jail system. Approximately 25% of new admissions per year to the NYC jail system will receive care on the mental health service. This service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, a strong DBT training program, clinics in each of the facilities, substance use treatment, integrated re-entry services, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city.

Under the supervision of the ARNT Director, provides quality mental health care to the inmate population of the New York City Department of Corrections on Rikers Island.

Responsibilities:

  • Screens, assesses needs, and develops discharge plans for identified substance abuse individuals.
  • Provides individual and group counselling for patients.
  • Acts as liaison with community treatment programs.
  • Prepares records, reports on patients, and assists in other departmental duties as required.
  • May provide substance abuse education to general population
  • Additional related duties as assigned by appropriate authority.

Are you a world-class Level E academic, sector leader, or clinician with a passion for understanding and responding to alcohol and other drugs (AOD) use and related harms? The National Drug Research Institute (NDRI) is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to fill the role of Director.
  
You will lead a national institute and develop cutting-edge AOD research programs that make a difference through innovative contributions to the field, valued by policy makers, practitioners, and communities in Australia and internationally.  

With a balance of formal qualifications and practical experience, you will provide leadership and foster excellence in research initiatives aimed at reducing harmful alcohol and drug use and minimizing the adverse effects of licit and illicit drug use in Australian society.

As our Director, you will be based at NDRI’s head office at Curtin University in Perth; however, this role includes management of its office in Melbourne and includes a keen focus on its role as a national institute.

PREFERRED AND REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with:

  • A Doctorate in an appropriate discipline (applicants without a Doctorate but with evidence of high-level leadership will also be considered)
  • Strong research expertise in AOD-related research
  • Excellent track record of academic metrics and research translation in AOD or related fields
  • Demonstrated high-level policy and/or practice leadership in AOD
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage with policy makers, practitioners, and communities
  • Knowledge of the national and international landscape of AOD research and policy

About the opportunity 

The University of Sydney team of researchers lead internationally competitive research projects ranging from molecules to medicine. Join the team as a Research Fellow and work on defining new cellular targets for the treatment of opioid addiction and chronic pain.  You will work under the supervision of Professor Elena Bagley and will work on defining new cellular targets for the treatment of opioid addiction and chronic pain. You will play a key role using your quantitative and qualitative skills to collect data and work on various research components. As a Research Fellow you will support the design, development and evaluation of the how opioids alter neural function to support the development of compulsive drug use and chronic pain. 

Your key responsibilities will be to: 

  • apply and refine expertise in research methodologies  undertake original research (either independently or as part of a team) within discipline or area of expertise 
  • develop research collaborations which will ultimately result in knowledge or technology transfer leading to commercialization, improved policy or practice and/or enhancements to industry 
  • assist with future grant applications and supervision of PhD students.

Under its Regional Programme for South Asia, UNODC is delivering technical assistance to South Asia under the following five sub-programmes:

(1) countering transnational organized crime;

(2) a comprehensive response to the drug problem (drug trafficking & drugs and health);

(3) countering corruption.

(5) criminal justice and crime prevention.


To address the objectives under sub-programme 2, UNODC supports governments of the region to implement key recommendations of the UNGASS 2016 outcome document as well as related Conventions. A project has been designed as a holistic and inter-reliant programme to provide essential health services and evidence-based drug demand reduction initiatives especially for the population affected by the economic breakdown in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan people at risk of drug use and already affected by drug use and drug use disorder in national economic crisis are supported with essential health and social care, evidence- and human-rights-based interventions to drug use and drug use disorders through expanded partnerships with the Government of Sri Lanka, relevant UN and NGO partners. These services are to be delivered with special attention to those with special vulnerabilities such as children, youths, women, and sexual minority affected by drug use and drug use disorders. The aim is to empower capacities of governmental bodies and civil society already active in the region to scale up and enhance their ongoing work, to cover a wider area and offer a fuller spectrum of activities that aim at reducing demand for, as well as harm from drugs.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Specialist COMHAD Practitioner to join the multi-disciplinary team at our Armley Park Course base. The team consists of a Consultant Psychiatrist, Consultant Psychologist, Mental Health Nurses, Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, Social Worker, Specialist Health Visitor and a Specialist Midwife.

The job role will include providing specialist addiction treatment, including psychosocial and pharmacological interventions, harm reduction, & risk management to service users with co-existing mental health and/or pregnancy needs. The LYPFT team is trauma-informed and offers a formulation driven, psychological model. This role will allow you the opportunity to increase knowledge in the field of addiction, which will enhance you skill set within mental health.

The successful candidate will hold a caseload as well as delivering psychosocial interventions to service users to support the wider service. Excellent training, supervision and support from an experienced team based in a clinical centre of excellence will be offered.

University of Hull are seeking a Research Assistant to join the ProACTIVE research team, which is examining the impact and effectiveness of Alcohol Care Teams in England. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated researcher to join a highly experienced team funded by the National Institute for Health Research (https://fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/NIHR152084).

This position will be based within the Institute for Clinical and Applied Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences at University of Hull and within a hospital site in the region. The post holder will be accountable to Professor Thomas Phillips and report to Dr Philippa Case, the ProACTIVE Research Fellow and Trial Manager. They will also work closely with the Hull Health Trials Unit (HHTU) and Professor Julia Sinclair, University of Southampton.

The successful candidate will support the implementation of a cross-sectional national survey of alcohol services based within NHS hospitals in England, and recruit patients with lived experience of alcohol dependence to a quasi-experimental study. The survey will identify the nature and scope of hospital-based alcohol service provision across England which will inform the additional work packages. The quasi-experimental study will be conducted within six NHS hospital sites and will involve the recruitment and follow-up of study participants at 6-months.

Research Fellow - Experimental Psychologist or Physiologist in Addictions

This 2-year Research Fellow position is to support a mid-career researcher with interest and experience in experimental studies (i.e. experienced post-doc/research fellow) to develop their research credentials in studies of substance use and associated problems, especially of heroin/opioid overdose and risk of overdose death. Working directly with Professor Strang and colleagues, the Research Fellow will be responsible for finalising the development of human experimental studies of the acute effects of opioids, characteristics of opioid overdose and its reversal, and exploration of wearable technology.

The Research Fellow will also drive the development of the ethics and regulatory approvals as well as coordinating and conducting the experimental investigations, both within the purpose-built Clinical Research facility and also in community settings.

The scope of research will include liaison and consultation with drug user groups and also family groups. In this post, the appointee can expect to become an increasingly influential research academic contributing to study of opioids (or other drugs) and to the evolution of addictions science and public policy in this area.

The Post

The University of Stirling are seeking to appoint a motivated researcher to help conduct an externally funded pilot randomised control trial of use of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) in the home to reduce children’s exposure to second-hand smoke. You will be educated to degree level or above in a relevant discipline and have experience in conducting applied health research. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-institution team, the researcher will be housed in NHS Lanarkshire. The researcher will lead on recruitment, intervention delivery, and assist with collecting and analysing data. There will also be opportunities to draft reports and article, become involved in future funding applications, and contribute to research activities within the Institute for Social Marketing and Health (ISMH), University of Stirling.

Description of Duties 

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting participants, collecting and analysing data, and intervention delivery. For example, they will collect baseline and follow up data by telephone on tobacco use, current home smoking practices and nicotine dependence
  • They will also arrange home visits and assist family members with collection of child saliva samples for analysis of cotinine levels (a good indicator of second-hand smoke exposure)
  • The successful candidate will discuss NRT product choice with participants by telephone, arranging delivery via NHS Lanarkshire’s NRT postal service, and provide fortnightly telephone support to participants
  • The successful candidate will work closely with the NHS Lanarkshire Tobacco Control Team Leader and the Principal Investigator (based at ISMH) to deliver the intervention and contribute to the analysis, synthesis and write up of findings for funder reports and submission to peer-reviewed journals

The Department for Health at the University of Bath has an exciting new opportunity available for a Policy and Knowledge Exchange Lead to join the team. 

About the role 

Your role will be to work in consultation with Tobacco Control Research Group’s (TCRG) strategic leadership team and develop and implement a plan to increase the reach and awareness of and secure diverse impacts from the work of the TCRG (including its work on tobacco and beyond) and the wider research groupings in which it participates including the Beacon for 21st Century Public Health. 

These impacts will include but not be limited to policy change.

You will have experience of translating research into action and the ability to engage with the media and stakeholders across multiple sectors, including at high level. This plan should reflect both the REF (ie impact) and KEF agendas at the University of Bath.

TCRG is a multidisciplinary, international research group at the University of Bath. Our work focuses on the commercial determinants of health. We specifically examine how major corporations influence health and policy; evaluate the impacts of policy change on health; and provide evidence to inform the development of new policy.

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) permanent basis.

TobaccoTactics.org is a unique academic resource that summarises research and monitoring findings on the tobacco industry and its allies in an evidence-based and user-friendly format. It is used globally by politicians, civil servants, journalists and advocates. 

About the role

You will co-ordinate, under the direction of the Managing Editor, global and regional monitoring of the tobacco industry, its allies and fronts groups, specifically by ensuring external partners and sources are utilised. 

Working with the Managing Editor, and deputy editor you will identify emerging trends, share your findings with the TCRG, and co-ordinate how they are to be monitored. Working with other external partners and identify new external connections as well as maintain and develop links within the TCRG.

You will write, edit, and update existing content as well as research and develop new profiles for the TobaccoTactics website.

You will be required to brief project partners and external stakeholders, including conducting media interviews, about the work of Tobacco Tactics under the direction of the Managing Editor and in liaison with the Marketing & Communications Lead. That includes the production of a variety of materials for a range of audiences, such as regular webinars/podcasts. 

This role is offered on full time (36.5 hours per week) permanent basis.

Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF) is Scotland’s national resource of expertise on drugs and drug-related issues. A membership-based registered charity, which works towards the reduction of drug related harm in Scotland through a range of varied programmes of work.

SDF is seeking an experienced and strategic-minded Director of Operations to provide leadership and direction to SDF’s programme managers and ensure the efficient, effective and quality delivery of our work programmes. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, problem-solver, and leader with a proven track record of success in operations management.

a)   to support the Board and CEO to deliver the strategic objectives in the Strategic Plan and work with the CEO and staff to develop ongoing and future strategy;

The primary responsibilities of the co-Editor-in-Chief (co-EiC) are to provide editorial leadership and strategic stewardship of the journal alongside the current co-EiC, Lorenzo Leggio, and to guide the journal’s editorial direction. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the co-EiC ensures the journal’s content fulfils the journal vision, provides value to its readership, and reflects the highest standards of scientific value and integrity. The co-EiC also ensures journal operations are conducted in accordance with industry standards and best ethical and publishing practices.

The initial tenure for this position is a 3 year term. Tenure extensions are decided upon mutual agreement.

The successful candidate will contribute to three tasks. First, assist with study set up including submission of regulatory documents Second, coordinate and lead on data collection which will include both quantitative and qualitative data. The latter will be collected using semi-structured interviews with service users, AAOT staff and key leaders involved in AAOT in Greater Manchester and potentially nationally. The focus will be on evaluating characteristics and predictors of treatment outcomes. Thirdly, undertaking the analysis and publication of the study findings.

Main duties of the job

The role will be based in Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation Trust in close collaboration with Prof. Karina Lovell at the University of Manchester. It will also include close working with the Lead NIHR MHIN study team based at the Alcohol Research Group, Addiction's Department King's College London and the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Greater Manchester.

There will also be close working with 3rd sector organisations and other local NHS Trusts.

The successful candidate will gain experience working as part of a major national consortium and acquire a range of research and transferable skills including supervision of junior colleagues. They will contribute to the writing and publication of high-quality papers in peer-reviewed literature and will benefit from mentoring, training, and support to enable them to progress to the next stage of their career.

There is an exciting secondment/fixed term opportunity to Join the well established Addictions Care Team as Senior Addictions Clinical Coordinator for the Addiction Clinical Care Suite (ACCS).

The ACCS admits patients requiring medically assisted withdrawal / stabilisation from drugs and / or alcohol. This is a 7 day/24hr service and the work will involve shift pattern of days and nights.

This role has been developed to ensure the smooth co-ordination of care delivered to patients admitted to the pathway and ensure that they are supported throughout their journey with appropriate input from key stakeholders.

The role of senior clinical coordinator is open to registered Nurses (RGN/RMN) or registered Allied Health Professionals with a strong background/interest in Addictions, homeless health and mental health care delivery. The clinical coordinator will be responsible for the delivery of evidence based care and the effective, efficient flow of the pathway.

The post holder will be expected to provide professional leadership within the clinical area and provide direction, and inspirational leadership to all members of the multi-disciplinary team working with the ACCS. The post holder will also be involved in the development of protocols / guidelines and patient information.

Applications are invited for a talented and ambitious researcher, with mixed-methods skills and implementation science expertise, to support and develop an ongoing programme of research focused on improving health and social care systems to better support people with co-occurring substance use, mental and physical ill-health, led by Professor Amy O'Donnell at the Population Health Sciences Institute, Newcastle University. 

The current research programme includes several National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded studies: NIHR ‘ADEPT' study, which examines the potential for using digital technology to improve coordinated care for co-morbid alcohol use disorder and depression; NIHR Health and Social Care Delivery Research-funded Alcohol Care Teams Evaluation; NIHR Three Schools Evaluation of the North East Alcohol Recovery Navigator Scheme; and NIHR ARC Evaluation of the Wakefield Mental Health Navigator Scheme.

You will be an integral member of the research team, leading the development, delivery, and dissemination of implementation-science-focused components of the above studies, providing mixed-methods methodological support and advice to other members, assisting where needed with data collection and analysis, and working closely with Professor O'Donnell to develop applications for external funding in this field, including conducting relevant evidence syntheses and public and patient engagement activities.
