Addiction is multidimensional phenomenon and very complex by nature, needs proper interventions by skilled professionals.
Our topic relates to the Family dimension of Addiction..Family suffers a lot and learns so many things which are beyond the thinking in non addictive family patterns ..
During Recovery process families often become victims of many Traps .These pressure traps can be big threat in achieving Recovery .So in Family psycho seduction, these Traps must be in consideration.
These traps like addiction, effect Counselor,Person with Substance Use and Family and recovery process gets tensity. Here are these Traps one by one .
1. *Hurry Trap*
Family wants result swiftly,at any cost family wants to get rid of the problem
because this effects family routines, social obligations of family,at home topics, communication patterns ,economic issues, and relationships etc .They want to make themselve relax .so they want wanted results hurriedly.
Actually they want miracle by early interventions of treatment. This trap puts pressure on their loved one and on themselves too.so a skilled professional has an eye on it.
*2*Assuming* *Trap** ..
person in Recovery shows such behaviours which become triggers to family Assumptions.Family has learnt to assume the situations in substance use time.so such behaviour in Recovery create assumptions .for example Person in Recovery( PIR) spent some time outside with friends ,its family assumption time too.without facts about drug use, family think this....
When PIR comes back at home ,He or she faces suspicious gestures ,eye moments and even verbal Investigations..
This thing may put the Recovery in danger..Family should wait till the fact,it will make family and PIR relaxe .
*3*Army Trap*
In my 31 years of experience treating addiction,I have seen this many time, when family becomes Army and they shout, yell, fight with PIR when he or she commits any wrong..This is the time when PIR needs support ,care and love.never think PIR is enemy and we have a right to fix it..in our asian countries where joint family exists ,this trap plays havoc to Recovery process and add anger, disappointments in family and threatens PIR ,s Identity and struggle.actually a Person in Recovery( PIR) is a Person in Struggle.any struggler need help, support and encouragement.
*4.Perfection Trap*
This Trap like Hurry Trap plays with the family,s expectations.I often says this Dry cleaning thinking.where whole cloths washes completely and thier is no stain. But Recovery is different .it needs work on thinking, behaviour , broken family dynamics. It is a process of discovery as a whole..it needs time.any mistake does not mean PIR is not serious about Recovery.Every department of personality needs work .Recovery is Personality Repairing actually.only treatment can not produce whole person..focused word is CONTINUITY .
*5*Wisdom Trap*
After or during treatment family applies its own rules some time and neglect the professional or therapeutic advice.like they may ignore family sessions prioritizing other social obligations. They may stop Continuity of recovery process by engaging in anger or with good productive results.Always focused therapeutic environment can produce success in Recovery process.Domestic wisdom is not better than professional wisdom.
*6*Conclusion Trap*
Its swift decision making about PIR that he or she can not quit. Its can be a wastage of time and money.tThis sever disappointment ends the process of Recovery because Relapse is the Part of Recovery. So any negative conclusion increases disappointment, anger , self pity,Isolation and disconnectedness.
*7.Approval Trap* .
This Trap is very fatal in early recovery where family decides about every activity of PIR.
What to do,when to do,how to do and why to do?
It will be approved by us all the time.
This dangerous Trap is increasing Relapse Rates in Asian Countries in joint family systems.
So Considerations about family Psycho education ,it should be a professional obligation to find and discuss these Traps so the Recovery Process gets smoothness and easy continuity.
