The programme of work of UNODC in any region of the world is developed in a consultative process together with the concerned Member States. More than twenty-five (25) Serbian high-level decision makers from Ministries of Health, Education, Social Affairs and Counternarcotics are participating in the three-day workshop on creating humane, effective and evidence-based drug use prevention and drug dependence treatment and care services, held at the Parliamentarians Members Club in Belgrade, Serbia from 20 to 22 May 2019.

Background: People with severe substance use disorders require long-term rehabilitative care after the initial treatment. There is, however, a deficit in the availability of such care. This may be due both to inadequate medical coverage and insufficient use of community-based Twelve-Step programs in many treatment facilities.
