UPC ECHO-TRAINING IN MONROVIA, LIBERIA

Christopher Saah Bangaou - 9 November 2024
UPC ECHO-TRAINING SESSION

As part of our ongoing efforts to achieve significant drug demand reduction in Liberia, we are implementing evidence-based prevention intervention programs. A critical step in this process involves training and involving prevention professionals to effectively address substance use issues in our communities.

The Universal Prevention Curriculum (UPC) ECHO-Training began on November 4, 2024, and the first phase will conclude on November 16, 2024. My sincere appreciation goes to the Ministry of Health, particularly the Mental Health Unit, for their efforts in recruiting participants and...

La importancia del conocimiento para la prevención de adicciones

Ariadna Elisa Valdez Engel - 6 Mayo 2022

Propocionar...

Remove stigma

RANA KASHIF - 6 March 2022

Man is not bad. Drugs are bad
If they give up drugs, they are very successful and very good people
You have to have will power to quit drugs
You will speak for yourself as I can do it
Life is beautiful without a drugs
You like the little things
How can you remove stigma
You don't have to tell anyone that I quit drugs
You have to show your actions
From your behavior, from your thinking, from your emotions, from your walking, from your getting up, from your sitting
you can do it
You are very lucky to have quit drugs
You have courage, a lot of passion, a lot of enthusiasm, but you should take...

.....just to clarify...

Jeff Lee - 5 May 2021

The “Map” aims to contain the resources and training that can be accessed or which are provided by international/regional organisations in the substance use prevention field - not sure if I made that clear in my last post.

Building a Prevention Map

Jeff Lee - 5 May 2021

Readers

I am trying to build a “Prevention Map” that identifies resources and training provision in the field of substance use prevention that can be accessed by or available through international/regional reputable organisations. I would be grateful for your advice, comments, suggestions. I want the “Map” to be a user friendly guide to different aspects of prevention in different settings and for different levels/abilities/professional level of users.

Please send information or links to me jeff.lee@issup.net or enter on this network.

Your help is much appreciated.

Jeff

Shock Tactics - an informed comment from EUSPR

Jeff Lee - 11 November 2019

The following text on the use of "shock tactics" as an approach to prevention was provided by EUSPR. I welcome your comments. I will add mine tomorrow!

Image removed.

Prevention methods using shock tactics are proven to be ineffective. Nevertheless, strategies based on predominantly providing information about the dangers of substance use are  widespread in Europe. The European Society for Prevention Research (EUSPR) is concerned about those so-called prevention strategies. It calls on decisionmakers, influencers and policymakers to use scientific proof of effectiveness as a criterion for exposing...

What do you mean that drug prevention should target infants? A look at prenatal and infancy visitation

PTRS UNODC - 19 August 2019

Welcome to the first post of the new series by UNODC on evidence-based prevention strategies(link is external)! Thank you for being here with us to hear about the strategies that have been found to be effective in preventing drug use, substance abuse and other risky behaviours in the UNODC/WHO International Standards on Drug Use Prevention(link is external).

When they hear ‘drug prevention’, most people think about campaigns raising awareness about the dangers of drugs and would find it very difficult to even think about targeting a strategy to children, let alone infants!

However, think about what we know from the...
