There is a scarcity of research on drug use patterns among HIV-positive young individuals in Sub-Saharan Africa (YLWH). To fill the gap, the following was set out:

  1. compare the prevalence of substance use, specifically alcohol and illicit drug use, among YLWH to their HIV-uninfected peers;
  2. look into the independent relationship between HIV infection status and substance use among these young people;
  3. look into the risk indicators for substance use among these young people.

Between November 2018 and September 2019, a cross-sectional study was conducted at the Kenyan coast recruiting 819...

Alcohol consumption contributes to 3 million deaths each year globally as well as to the disabilities and poor health of millions of people.

Alcohol use among adolescents can be harmful to neurodevelopment and has been linked to an increased risk of suicide ideation, depression, and risky sexual behaviour.

In Mexico, alcohol use has steadily increased among youth over the last decade, prompting an investigation into the link between perceived availability of alcohol, heavy episodic drinking, and alcohol-related harms among 12-17-year-olds.

This study is based on survey data obtained in...

The use of alcohol and drugs is a significant public health concern and is prevalent in families. Over 100 million people are thought to be affected by a close relative's substance use, with many experiencing negative health and social consequences. Additional associated stressors, such as interpersonal conflict, financial issues, the burden of care, and family conflict, frequently increase the multi-dimensional impact of substance use. Moreover, there is evidence of a link between substance use and intimate partner violence and abuse, both in the offender and the victim, as well as a link...
