The UNODC Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA) internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department.

The internship will be supporting the Libya Programme Office from the UNODC office in Tunis, Tunisia. 

The aim of the internship is to provide the selected candidate with hands on experience in the United Nations. The candidate will gain research skills as well as apply this research and drafting skills on the core components of the project: crime prevention and criminal justice. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to both the planning of, and participation in, workshops held with counterparts to tackle the project’s core components, leading to a deeper understanding of how UNODC is working to promote criminal justice as well as end violence against women in the region.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time. 

Interns work five days per week (35.5 hours) under the direct supervision of the Libya Programme Office Associate Programme Officer and its Head of Office, and the overall supervision of the Regional Representative.

L’associé de recherche appuiera une étude financée par le National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) dirigé par la professeure Ann McNeill. L’objectif de l’étude est de comparer l’exposition aux substances toxiques et à la nicotine chez les jeunes (16-19 ans) qui vapotent avec les jeunes qui fument, ceux qui vapotent et fument, et ceux qui ne le font pas. Le candidat retenu travaillerait également avec une équipe internationale du Canada et des États-Unis.

Le titulaire du poste dirigera la mise en œuvre d’un nouveau protocole de recrutement pour la collecte de biomarqueurs auprès des jeunes de la communauté, la collecte, l’analyse et la publication de données avec la responsabilité quotidienne de la gestion du projet.

Addiction Counselling Department Chair at Online Christian University

This is a part-time, remote work-from-home hourly staff position that reports to City Vision University’s President. It includes the following work areas:

  • Course and Program Management and Quality Assurance (70%). Works with the President to improve the quality of the content in courses in the program. 

    • Per-Term Course Quality Reviews. Completes a spot check review of each course before each term to ensure the quality of the new course instance. Reviews faculty and student feedback related to course content and maintains a list of action items to be used in the next minor revision. Fixes any content problems in courses as they come up in the term.

    • Course Design and Major Revisions. Develops new courses or supervises contractors to develop new courses aligned with our values and priorities as assigned by the President. Works with the President (and contractors as needed) to conduct major revisions to courses. 

  • Faculty Management and Quality Assurance (20%). Works with the President to recruit, administer, support, monitor and evaluate adjunct faculty to ensure quality program delivery for the program.

    • Recruitment. Assist in recruiting new quality faculty in the program. Reviews new candidates and conducts interviews for new faculty in the program.

    • Administrative. Provides input into faculty scheduling of courses each year. Fills in for faculty who cannot finish teaching in a term.

    • Support & Evaluation. Provides support and training resources to improve faculty quality. Assisting in faculty training calls. Follows up with faculty who are not meeting expectations to provide support, training and correction Reviews student feedback as it relates to faculty.  Completes at least one formative evaluation of each faculty each year. Complete a year-end summative evaluation of each faculty assessing which faculty to renew. This includes a follow-up meeting with any returning faculty. 

  • Compliance, Student Support, Reporting and Accreditation (10%)

    • Compliance. Works with the President to ensure that all DEAC, Missouri, Federal and International standards are met, especially those surrounding quality measures including student satisfaction and graduation rates within the program. Assists the President in preparing documents required for reaccreditation to ensure that all DEAC standards are met for the program.

    • Student Support. Supports students and potential students, as second-line support to the Director of Admissions and the Director of Student Services. Develops and implements strategies to improve student retention within the program. Conducts exit interviews with graduating students.

    • Team Support. Attends bi-weekly one-to-one supervision meetings with the President and attends all staff meetings. Provides support in any area needed as directed by the President.

City Vision University is an accredited online-only Christian university that provides radically affordable education to those serving those who are poor, the addicted, and the underserved (see impact summary). While we are relatively small with an estimated 350 students this year, our enrolment grew at almost 40% last year and we expect significant growth this year.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Responsible for overseeing the medical activities of the United Planning Organisation, Comprehensive Treatment Center Opioid Treatment Program.Examines and evaluates the physical condition of patients, formulates diagnosis, prescribes treatment and/or referral to other health care professionals and determines an appropriate medication regimen.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:Conduct medical exams and establish doses for buprenorphine, naltrexone, and methadone clients, including initial and annual physical examinations.Confer with counsellors, attend review boards, client treatment staff meetings, and contribute to treatment plans. Evaluate clients' progress and make recommendations for changes in medical treatment and/or dosages as required. Acts as consultant regarding medical problems as they arise. Consult with other physicians regarding the care of clients and review the status of referrals. Make inpatient/outpatient referrals to other medical facilities/services. Write orders for buprenorphine, naltrexone, and methadone and other prescribed medication required for necessary patient care. Prepare emergency medications. Provide medical consultation to nursing and clinical staff. Perform ongoing reviews of case files to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements and regulations. Serve as a member of the treatment team to advise on the course of client care. Provide training on buprenorphine, naltrexone, and methadone, drugs and withdrawal/detoxification to new staff and substance abuse counsellors.

Provide lectures/information for clients as needed on buprenorphine, naltrexone, methadone, drugs of abuse and their treatment. Perform client monitoring for Diversion Control Procedures. Prepare and review client and program policies. Provide consultation to Treatment staff in weekly meetings to consult on client cases. Provide emergency care to clients on the premises. Provide on call coverage when needed to the Opioid Treatment Program. Review client medications for drug interactions on a quarterly basis or as needed. Review all take-home requests and drug screen results.

Experience Required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Doctor of Medicine (MD). Experience in responsible medical positions, including some experience in the rehabilitation persons with substance use disorders. Possession of a certificate of registration to practice medicine in DC, possession of a certificate of registration with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, and the State Board of Pharmacy in the District of Columbia. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, effective planning and organisational skills along with technological competence and data management systems. Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

Job Summary:

Determines the level of care and provides therapy for mental health, substance abuse, and/or developmentally disabled clients, including evaluating service needs, providing behavioural health therapy and clinical consultation, and performing diagnostic assessments of clients.
 

Essential Duties:

  • Performs diagnostic assessments of clients.

  • Administers developmental assessments to clients.

  • Provides on-going assessment, crisis intervention, individual, family, and group therapy and case management services.  

  • Evaluates and documents client’s level of functioning and progress toward attainment of goals.

  • Conducts involuntary commitment evaluations and executes involuntary commitment of clients as required.

  • Provides clinical consultation and guidance to behavioural health providers. Provides community consultation, education, and prevention services.

  • Collaborates with clinical director and/or supervisor and other team members regarding treatment.  Coordinates treatment team meetings and client case staffing. 

  • Coordinates meetings between family members, psychologists, educators, and other professionals.

  • Provides in-home screenings and evaluations of clients.


Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Requires knowledge of principles and practices of public, business or judicial/court administration. All laws, rules, and regulations governing public and court administrative operations. Court practices and procedures. Legal terminology related to court operations. Techniques used to conduct legal research. 
 

Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counselling, or Psychiatry or related field required; and at least four years of experience in providing behavioural health services; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Licensing Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.   Must possess and maintain a state of Georgia license or eligibility for a license as a professional counsellor, clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, psychologist, psychiatric nurse, rehabilitation counsellor; (as required by position assignment).

The EMCDDA intends to establish a reserve list for administrative and clerical support agents for technical cooperation (TC) projects. Applications are invited for an MRC-funded research associate position commencing 1st July 2022. The successful candidate will be based in the Cambridge Laboratory for Research on Impulsive/Compulsive Disorders (CLIC) led by Professor David Belin.

This MRC research project aims to identify the role of striatal astrocytic syncytia in the development of compulsive heroin seeking habits in the rat.

The successful applicant will join a highly interactive group and will ideally have a special interest in the Psychological and neural mechanisms of the individual vulnerability to addiction.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant neuroscience subject, preferably neurophysiology/neuropharmacology and a good background in psychology. Relevant experience in behavioural neuroscience, including experimental models of addiction and expertise in one or more of the following: in vivo Fibre photometry, electrophysiology, chemogenetics (DREADD), optogenetics, molecular biology techniques (e.g. qPCR, RNAscope, transcriptomics).

Applicants should have excellent organisational and communication skills, and be able to work well as part of a team.

The Matilda Centre is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level A) / Research Fellow (Level B) (0088838) to manage and implement projects designed to develop and evaluate interventions for substance use among people working in emergency, corrective, family and community services.

This position is open to qualified academic Level A and B applicants. The level at appointment will be determined on the skills and experience of the selected candidate.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • build on and develop a major project undertaking critical research in mental health and substance use assessment in emergency response and other frontline personnel

  • undertake the academic leadership and project management of intervention development, user testing and trialling of online interventions

  • liaise and consult with key stakeholders across funder, partner and other organisations and agencies

  • develop and lead the academic program stream, including applying for further funding, undertaking analysis of program data, and the preparation of publications for peer-review journals and conference presentations

Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.

The School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking an early career scholar for a postdoctoral position to work with a team of faculty, implementation support practitioners, and students on research projects related to implementation practice. Topics will include the roles of trust, relationships, psychological safety, and power in implementation and evidence use, how implementation science can advance equity, engaging communities and partners in all aspects of implementation, and strategies for place-based implementation efforts and achieving equitable implementation. This postdoctoral scholar will support the team in: conducting literature reviews and rapid review of evidence; conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection; developing grant applications; developing study designs, study protocols and IRB applications; qualitative and quantitative data management and analysis; and research and scholarly dissemination in scholarly as well as practitioner- and policy-based venues. This position will primarily focus on projects related to supporting and assessing principles and competencies for growing the implementation practice workforce.

Counselor

Providing counselling services to assigned clients including individual, family / group therapy sessions, and promoting an environment of long-term recovery. Establishing and maintaining a therapeutic environment for residents.

Requirements:

  • CDCA (Chemical Dependency Counsellor Assistant) or higher certification in Ohio
  • One year (2,000 hours) of chemical dependency counselling related work experience compensated work or supervised internship required.
  • Preferred bachelor's degree in a behavioural science or related field AND LCDC III
  • COVID –19 Vaccination / approved exemption status

Responsibilities:

  • Assess the counselling needs of the client
  • Assessing client for substance abuse diagnosis using DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) criteria in determining the appropriate level of care based on ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) criteria.
  • Preparing the substance abuse counselling portion of the client treatment plan
  • Development of the client discharge/continuum of care plan to ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care.
  • Documenting all counselling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals, and follow-up in the client’s clinical record.
  • Maintain client caseload (including all case management and utilisation review updates). Treatment planning duties and clinical charting as required.
  • Provide coordination of support services for the client/family and record the services provided in the client’s clinical record.
  • Contact and coordination with referral sources, (i.e. legal, school, employer, etc.)
  • Facilitate needed interventions for crisis-orientated issues utilising a multi-disciplinary team approach for assigned clients.
  • Act in accordance with Pinnacle Treatment Centers’ policies and federal confidentiality laws (42-CFR, Pt 2)

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

  • Addiction counselling: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

JOB PURPOSE:

The Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) runs individual, family, and group counseling for patients in substance use disorder programs. The SUDP acts as mediator between patients, relatives, medical staff, and outside agencies if needed. They continuously monitor and track patient progress and dispensation of treatment services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: (Include equipment knowledge/use)

Required:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent required.

• Certified as a Substance Use Disorder Professional in good standing with the State of Washington.

• No history of alcohol or other drug misuse for a period of three years before employment as a SUDP and not display evidence of misuse of alcohol or other drug while licensed as a SUDP and employed by the Quinault Wellness Center.

• Not be on prescribed medications that may interfere with the ability to perform any task within the scope of the job description, or that is inconsistent with the mission of the Wellness Center.

• Knowledge of human behaviour and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioural and affective disorders.

• Knowledge and adherence to state (RCW, WAC) and federal confidentiality regulations (42 CFR part 2). Applicants must always conduct self ethically and professionally.

• Knowledge of HIPAA and PHI requirements.

• Knowledge of common office and administrative procedures.

• Skills in the operation of a personal computer and standard office programs and equipment.

• Ability to work in a cross-culture environment and understands the social and cultural context of the patients at the Quinault Wellness Center, understanding the role of trauma, historical, community, family, and personal experience in wellness and recovery.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Specific duties and day-to-day tasks of the Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) are prompted by assignments, and by requirements to fulfill responsibilities established by the Supervisor. These duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provides up to 120 hours per month of direct counselling and case management services to patients; consisting of individual, group, family, and educational services; including assessment, counselling, and aftercare services.

• Effectively orients clients to the facility as needed by explaining issues including, but not limited to rule infractions that may result in termination, the hours-of-service availability, clients’ rights and the grievance procedure, and costs for which they may be responsible.

• Identifies and explores problems and their ramifications with attention to the clients’ associated attitudes and feelings. With the clients’ participation, examines alternative solutions and develops plans of action.

• Identifies and responds to crises that may negatively impact treatment and, where possible, uses the negative events to enhance treatment efforts.

• Leads discussions and presents lectures and films for group sessions.

• Maintains professional standards and follows the treatment policies established by the agency, federal, state, and local regulations.

• Conducts follow-up on treatment programs designed for and undertaken by each patient.

• Coordinates and cooperates with the staff of other agencies and organisations to expedite treatment for each patient.

• Prepares and maintains a confidential, accurate, organised, and updated case file for each client. Completes all requisite administrative forms and tracking in a timely and efficient manner.

• Maintains accurate and current record keeping for each patient in accordance with the established electronic records system and in accordance with all agency procedures and protocols (assessments, treatment plans, treatment procedures, and discharge summaries, etc.).

• Prepares patient progress reports and completion notices and provides to all interfacing agencies to include courts, probation departments, and referral sources as appropriate.

• Participates in community educational programs on substance use disorder for the public, professional, and industrial groups.

• Maintains all requirements to ensure that SUDP licensure/certification remains current and in good standing.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Harm Reduction Project Lead

The Vuntut Gwitchin Government (VGG) is seeking a Harm Reduction Project Lead to drive forward important harm reduction and wellness initiatives. This is a 1-year term position with a possibility of extension.

The right candidate is located in the Yukon and is able to work remotely with some travel to Whitehorse and Old Crow.

Main Objectives:

  1. Develop a VGG Harm Reduction Policy in consultation with VGFN Citizens.
  2. Create a Harm Reduction Strategy that will guide the implementation of low-barrier supports for VGFN Citizens.
  3. Develop a VGG Wellness Plan for the community of Old Crow that will include healing pathways and preventative strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the VGG Intergovernmental Relations team in Whitehorse and coordinates deliverables with other related policy and legislative initiatives.
  • Ensures that all deliverables align with Gwich’in values and are completed on schedule.
  • Works with Directors to ensure VGG programs, policies and services are aligned with deliverables.
  • Works with senior officials and government leadership to advocate for resources to support the implementation of the deliverables.
  • Works with other departments to support the implementation of culturally appropriate low-barrier supports and health care services for VGFN Citizens.

Essential Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

  • Respectful of First Nations values, cultural traditions, ways of knowing and rights and experience working with Indigenous peoples and First Nations, preferably in rural communities or the North.
  • Specialisation or demonstrated knowledge of harm reduction, drug and alcohol policy, substance use, trauma-informed care and the impact of residential schools on Indigenous peoples.
  • Experience leading policy research, analysis and development and managing strategic initiatives with a health or social focus.
  • Experience facilitating community engagement sessions and integrating feedback into policy work.
  • Ability to write funding proposals, project reports and coordinate with other levels of governments to meet funding requirements.
  • Educational background in harm reduction, mental wellness, public health or Indigenous studies or governance.
  • Experience developing community strategies, policies or plans for an Indigenous Nation, community or organisation.
  • A combination of relevant professional and educational experience will be considered.

Job Summary

The Substance Use Disorder Counselor is responsible for providing outpatient treatment and supportive services for chemically dependent individuals and their families in our new San Bruno Outpatient Facility. Our program is Drug Medi-Cal certified and DHCS State-licensed.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Facilitate individual, family and peer group sessions. Preferably with a strong background in group-dynamics
  • Participate in clinical consultations, professional collaboration, and case management meetings to insure clients’ compliance to policies.
  • Conduct individualized guidance sessions with clients to monitor progress in their recovery plan.
  • Complete psychosocial assessment and intake of client to determine appropriate treatment and develop program for individualized guided sessions.
  • Submit report and required paperwork (CADDS, database forms, contract reports etc.) in accordance with established timelines.
  • Conduct or coordinate educational and training workshop for participants
  • Participate in educational, training and outreach activities as assigned.
  • Attend staff meetings and assist student interns as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A minimum two year’s experience in the substance abuse field in a capacity of counselor or equivalent position.
  • Completed CAADE, CADTP, CCAPP; or enrolled in AOD Classes working towards AOD Certification.
  • If in recovery a minimum of three years documented and continuous sobriety.
  • Bilingual and bicultural with the ability to speak Spanish and English preferred.
