The African Union Commission (AUC) has held an annual continental consultation for Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) since 2015.  AUC member states are each represented by their respective DDR national focal points, allowing member states an opportunity to present national DDR activities in a peer-review platform that also allows engagement with invited subject matter experts.  This year’s consultation was held in Arusha, Tanzania from 10-13 December 2024, and included Traditional Leaders from Southern Africa. INTRODUCTION: Existing research highlights current issues in youth mental health that are often related to the overuse of modern technology, the experience of depression, or reduced resilience to mental stress. Text Messages Conveying Parental Drinking Limits: A Potential Avenue for Preventing and Reducing Alcohol Use in College Students

Previous studies have shown that when students perceive their parents set strict limits on underage drinking, they tend to consume less alcohol. However, the best ways to communicate these limits effectively remain unclear. Instrument: Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAST-10)

The Drug Abuse Screen Test (DAST-10) was designed to provide a brief, self-report instrument for population screening, clinical case finding and treatment evaluation research. It can be used with adults and older youth.

The DAST-10 yields a quantitative index of the degree of consequences related to drug abuse. The instrument takes approximately 5 minutes to administer and may be given in either a self-report or interview format. The DAST may be used in a variety of settings to provide a quick index of drug abuse problems.

The 2024 Global Event will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece between 24th & 28th June, 2024. The event is organised by ISSUP and ISSUP Greece, INL, the Centers for the Prevention of Addictions, the Promotion of Psychosocial Health SEIRIOS and ICUDDR.  The event will take place in the historic center of Thessaloniki, on the premises of the ‘International Exhibition & Congress Centre of TIF-HELEXPO’ and surrounding conference rooms in museums and social institutions.
