The stigma associated with drug use and addictive behaviors affects in a transverse way in people's lives, making an impact on physical and mental health, the ability to find and maintain a job, to find and maintain a home, in their relationships social and self-concept. On the other hand, the stigma delays the search for adequate treatment and is in itself a barrier to access and stay in treatments.

A total of 35 participants took part in this training that was organized by WHO and UNODC together with PAHO, SEDRONAR, Hospital der Mar, and the generous support from the U.S. State Department Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) on 11-13 November 2019, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

A policy maker training on the nature, prevention and treatment of drug use disorders was organized for 50 participants in coordination with the National Board of Drugs (Uruguay), the UNODC Country Office in Peru and Ecuador, and the UNODC regional section for Latin America from 9-11 September 2019 in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The purpose of this study is to characterize the prevalence of the use and abuse of alcohol in high school students in Buenos Aires City. During October 2014, 2870 surveys were collected on a representative sample, probabilistic and two-stages type, of the population of young people in both public and private high schools. The results show that 66.9 % of the students consume alcohol at some point in their life and that the average age of their first consumption is 13.7 years old. Alcohol abuse accounts for the 81.9% of the consumption within the last 30 days the study was conducted.
