INTRODUCTION: According to Brichcín (1999), a self-regulating person is someone who can resist the temptation of immediate gratification of their needs and is capable of achieving challenging goals. Self-regulation represents the ability to make free and responsible choices and actions in relation to oneself, others, and the environment, in spite of deterministic influences. In real life, this relationship may also be reflected by the quality of mental health and engagement in risk behaviors during adolescence (Jessor & Jessor, 1977). The aim of the present paper was to investigate the...

INTRODUCTION:

Male infertility affects nearly 14% of men in Europe, and approximately 44% of them are unaware of the cause of their infertility. Thanks to the plentitude of research, we can now clearly define the risk factors that negatively affect semen quality, including substance abuse. The research objective seeks to determine whether these risk factors are present in candidate sperm donors in the clinics of reproductive medicine in the Moravian region and how they influence their spermiogram (SPG) values.

METHODS:

The lifestyle of candidate sperm donors will be monitored by a self...

EMCDDA

The new guidance for drug checking services manual by EMCDDA underlines the need for approaches that are grounded in the best evidence available or principles of effective and safe health risk communication. To date, there has been relatively little evaluation of how communications and alerts of drug checking services are developed and delivered.

The manual is based on the findings of international evidence reviews of health risk communication, communication guidelines published by international organisations, and specific initiatives undertaken with people who use drugs and the services that...

Tobacco harm reduction is a public health strategy aimed at lessening the health impact of cigarette smoking. This approach involves using non-combustible alternatives to cigarettes, such as electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), which deliver nicotine without combustion. Unlike traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes produce an aerosol without burning, resulting in lower levels of harmful or potentially harmful chemicals.

This narrative review delves into existing literature examining the chemistry of e-cigarette aerosols, associated toxicology in cell culture and animal models, and clinical...

After exploring the views of women and children, respectively, in Volumes II and III of this series, the fourth volume offers a perspective of how to develop more comprehensive, child-centred approaches in drug policies in general and in non-stigmatising drug treatment and care in particular.

This study, which is the outcome of international collaboration among researchers, practitioners and policy makers at different levels, works toward the ultimate goal of mainstreaming human rights, including children’s rights, into drug policy.

The impact of addiction on family finances is multiple.

It is therefore no surprise to find that the cost of living crisis is causing additional difficulty and strain to families affected by substance use, adding further complexity to the challenges they face.

For this research, Adfam spoke directly to 100 participants about the challenges families are facing right now. It finds that family members are in desperate need of additional support and help from those delivering services and that policymakers need to react to the additional challenges families are facing.
