  Trauma can be defined as the psychological distress following exposure to a traumatic or stressful event (Westhuizen, 2019). The way in which people respond to such an event is variable and can present in many different ways. Trauma is an injury to the brain and psyche in that it disrupts our psychological well-being at a neurological level. Trauma is the invisible force that shapes our lives. ISSUP staff engaged at the 3rd Informal Technical Consultation for the "Friends in Focus" program, hosted by UNODC in Vienna from June 11th to 13th. Our team, including Deputy Chief Executive, Livia Edegger, and Scientific Support Coordinator, Rasha Abi Hana, collaborated with global experts and youth to shape this innovative peer-to-peer prevention initiative.

Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) encompass multi-sector approach on strategies and programs designed to divert individuals with substance use disorders away from conventional imprisonment. These alternatives address treatment, support, and supervision, tackling the underlying causes of criminal conduct that is while curbing recidivism rates and fostering effective rehabilitation and societal reintegration.
