The Department of Addictions, at the Institute of Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience (IoPPN), is looking to recruit a skilled and dedicated Administrator to join its Professional Service team, on its Denmark Hill Campus. The post-holder will work closely with the Department’s Business Manager and Research Manager to provide high-level administrative support to academic staff, researchers and PhD students.

Your workload will be varied and involves supporting a range of functions such as HR, Finance and Research Grant Administration within the Drugs Research Group.

You will also play a key role in the delivery of the department’s communications plan, including writing and updating content for the website, the internal newsletter and social media platforms and liaising with the institute’s press office. You will also organise internal seminars and external events.

You will be confident, methodical and flexible. You will have previous office experience, preferably in Higher Education, and excellent interpersonal, organisational, communication and IT skills.

The IoPPN is undergoing a reshaping exercise which will impact on the Professional Service Staff (PSS) roles and responsibilities. Therefore, the duties and responsibilities outlined in this document may be subject to amendments.

The Addiction Psychiatrist at the Durham VA Health Care System provides a full range of therapeutic interventions to units/programs including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, PTSD, substance abuse, and other psychiatric disorders in various clinical settings including the outpatient, inpatient, ED, and hospital ward settings.

  • Provides outpatient psychiatric management for Veterans in the Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Clinic, including diagnostic evaluation; management of general psychiatric medications; medication-assisted treatment of substance use disorders (alcohol, opioids, tobacco, etc.), consistent with VHA, SAMHSA, and other relevant guidelines; and psychotherapy as clinically appropriate.
  • Provides diagnostic evaluation in complex cases that may involve SUD, e.g., co-occurring SUD and other mental disorders, distinguishing substance-induced vs. primary mental disorders, and co-occurring chronic pain and possible opioid use disorder.
  • Refers patients for primary and specialty medical care as appropriate.
  • Collaborates and contributes effectively as a member of the SUD Clinic multidisciplinary team.
  • Provides in-service education for the SUD Clinic team.
  • Maintains collegial, collaborative professional relationships with physicians in all clinical services in the Health System, including Psychiatry, Medicine, Ambulatory Care, Surgery, Anesthesiology, and Rehabilitation Medicine, etc., as warranted for excellent patient care.

VA Illiana Health Care System is currently seeking a full-time Addiction Psychiatrist for our Substance Use Disorder program based in Danville, IL and servicing our main facility and CBOC (Community Based Outpatient Clinics). Will serve as 50% with addictions and 50% BHIP-outpatient

Major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Performs psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population, with substance use disorder or other addictions, including geriatric and post deployment combat Veterans, who have comorbid mental illness as well as psychosocial issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and poor family support network.
  • Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management (medication assisted therapy), suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, psychosocial treatment and overall care of patients with substance use, addiction, and comorbid psychiatric disorders.
  • Ensures practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with TJC, CARF, HIPPA, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, and mandatory continuing education.
  • Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care.
  • The Psychiatrist may serve as a mental health team leader with responsibilities for coordinating consults and triage of specialty clinic referrals.
  • Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences, and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
  • Orders diagnostic tests and consultations, and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions.
  • May participate in supervision and teaching in support of the psychiatric residency program, performs on call duties, and performs other directly related duties as assigned.


Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm or 8:00 am - 4:30pm

Smart Thinking is looking for a Policy and Advocacy Manager to lead our campaigns across a range of topics and get the UK Government to take action on alcohol harm. Alcohol deaths rose to record levels during 2020.

Purpose of Role
You will be leading on campaigning and policy activities for the Alcohol Health Alliance. This 2-year Research Fellow position is to support a mid-career researcher to develop their addiction research credentials, working directly with Professor Strang and colleagues on human experimental studies of opioid addiction and/or associated complications, in order to become an increasingly influential research academic contributing to study of opioids (or other drugs) and to evolution of addictions science and public policy in this area. 

It is anticipated that the applicant will, during the course of their time as a Research Fellow, develop to a level where they are capable of securing, in collaboration with senior colleagues, new grant income with their appointment acting as a platform from which they can develop further in the addictions field.

The new Research Fellow will be expected to have undertaken post-doctoral study and research within the Addictions field already (or in an area with direct relevance), as evidenced by published research output. The appointee will work directly with Professor Sir John Strang and his colleagues, exploring treatment-related and experimental research studies which will include (i) study of heroin overdose and its prevention and reversal, including experimental study with drug administration in clinical and non-clinical volunteer participants, (ii) experimental studies of protective benefit conferred by initiation onto treatments, (iii) study of out-of-treatment as well as treatment populations with addiction/substance use problems.

This role is for a qualitative researcher based at the National Addiction Centre, King’s College as part of a research team that is based in three sites (London, Leeds/Huddersfield, Scotland). The post-holder will have responsibility for work in London with some responsibility to support and work with with a Research Assistant  based at the University of Huddersfield and to communicate effectively with the team in Stirling.  This is a longitudinal study that has been funded by the National Institute for Health Research, ‘Evaluating Models of care, best practice and care pathways for drug dependent women and their infants, from preconception to 18 months postnatal’ or the Stepping Stones Study.  The study is jointly led by Dr Polly Radcliffe at the National Addiction Centre, KCL and Professor Helen Cheyne of the Nursing Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals Research Unit at the University of Stirling.

The Opportunity

The Database Coordinator role will optimise ongoing data collection, management, enrichment, of ambulance data conducted by the Eastern Health Clinical School’s National Addiction and Mental Health Surveillance Unit.

This role involves collaboration with senior staff at Turning Point, external data custodians, as well as communicating in lay terms to other Turning Point staff to maintain these databases and provide data for analysis, reporting in a timely manner.

The Database Coordinator will be responsible for data integration and migration, coordinating with users and administrators to determine common needs and functions, writing database manuals and determining data organisational methods. This position is also required to provide training to database administrators and users in technical and lay terms as required.

Funded by Scottish Government, FAAST is an expert resource in prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD), and has a national remit for teaching, consultancy and research. The FAAST Training Officer will take a lead role in organising training events including the cascade of a “train the trainer” initiative, contribute to the development of training and competency frameworks in FASD and lead on training product promotion, evaluation and reporting.

  • Degree or equivalent qualification, or significant experience in relevant roles

This position is located in the UNODC Country Office in Colombia (COCOL) with duty station in Bogota, Division for Operations (DO) United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Colombia Office (UNODC).

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and substantive guidance of the Senior Programme Officer coordinating the Alternative Development Programme.

Within assigned authority, the Associate Project Officer (Alternative Development) will mainly provide assistance in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of an alternative development project in the department of Putumayo. S/he will contribute to the commercialization component of that project.
