E-Cigarettes and Passive Smoking: Is There a Risk?

E-cigarettes are becoming more and more popular. As such, many in the field of drug prevention and treatment are eager to uncover how they affect our health. E-cigarettes do not contain tobacco. However, it has been found by researchers at the University of Barcelona(link is external) and the Catalan Institute of Oncology(link is external) that their emissions do contain cancer-causing compounds, as well as benzene and nicotine. These, in turn, can affect bystanders via second-hand inhalation. Those in charge of the ongoing study hope that its findings will lead to changes in legislation to better protect the population from the potentially harmful effects of e-cigarettes.
